I think it’s often underestimated how much potential for angst established!destiel offers too

• twice the worrying about getting ganked
• bad guys using the other as leverage/bait
• after years of being touch-starved, Cas’ affections get too much for Dean sometimes
• Cas taking a while to adjust to having a home
• Dean and Cas going infuriatingly slow with their relationship because they’re not sure what exactly the other wants out of this, and they’ve gone too deep with their miscommunication in the past to be able to openly ask
• Dean and Cas having their first fight as a couple and, since neither of them have a whole lot experience with long-term relationships, they think the other doesn’t want them back after this
• too high expectations for their first time
• Cas not staying in Dean’s bed until the next morning and Dean being heartbroken over it every time
• Dean sometimes slipping back into his bro-facade around Cas out of habit, making Cas retreat
• worrying about their friends not accepting them
• hunters/angels looking down on them
• Sam being worried that their relationship could cause a shift in the TFW dynamic
• Dean and Cas fearing that if they fuck this up, they won’t just lose their partner, but also their best friend
• one of them getting cold feet before a next step in their relationship (maybe moving in together?) and leaving for a few days. insert mutual pining
• Dean fearing he is taking too long with his first “I love you”
• Cas thinking he has to be Dean’s protector now more than ever and Dean being pissed about it
• Cas worried that he keeps Dean from having the family with kids he’s always wanted
• an ex of Dean turning up, stirring up old feelings. Cas getting it in his head that he has to let Dean go now
• Dean getting insecure once his first gray hair appears because soon he’ll be an old man and will Cas still love him then?
