With the way Dean is clearly grieving more over Cas than his mother I can’t help but think of what Samuel Campbell said to him about Mary in s6

SAMUEL: You know, the one difference between us: you know how to live without her.

And I think this is true for Dean in s13.

Dean’s lost both his parents.  He’s had to live without them.  It hurts, but it’s a familiar hurt.

Losing Cas though?   Every time he has, he’s spiraled (s7, s8, and when he was missing/in danger in s11, s12).

Only, it’s gotten even worse because Dean has loved Cas for years, but he’s only more recently been willing to face the fact that he’s in love with Cas.

And recent ‘I love you’s and mixed tapes have him filled with regret and painful ‘what ifs.’  Maybe he was finally ready to let himself want something more with Cas and now that love has been torn away from him.

So Dean knows how to live without his mother, but he has no idea how to live without Cas.  To live without the person he loves, his chosen family. It’s a life without hope and he can’t face it.

Have we talked yet about what Dean was doing on his phone during the bar scene?

We so rarely see this happen, it really stuck out in my mind as strange. Also, he kept going back to whatever he was doing on his phone throughout the conversation with the fake!bartender, which also seems unlike him.

Any guesses?

looking at pics of Cas and trying to avoid calling his voicemail.  Or maybe Cas left him a voicemail that he wants to listen to. Dumb emoji messages from Cas.  Texts from him mum. Crowley’s flickr album

13×02: Daddy Issues

grey2510:

Ya know, for a Buckleming, that was a good episode. I mean, there were definitely things to check off for BINGO, but overall, not bad.

Some thoughts, in no particular order:

  • So many daddy issues:
    • Jack is still conflicted about his real father, his chosen father, and these two guys that he kind of looks up to and who may or may not hate him.
    • Sam is trying to do what John DIDN’T do for him. I really love how Sam’s taking charge more and is really coming into his own.
    • Dean is a hot mess and is in danger of becoming John 2.0. Of course, we know that Dean won’t ever go down that road completely, but he’s hurting and he’s pulling some of the same crap that John did to his kids.
      • Oh and what common event caused both these men to break? Losing a loved one? Hm. That’s interesting.
    • Lucifer, on both sides of the spectrum. Blah blah he’s still pissed at God and apparently he’s Emo™ and Misunderstood and Mary couldn’t possibly know what that he actually always wanted to be Father of the Year and run a preschool for fledgling angels and be a foster parent for wayward seraphim and shucks he woulda just been so cuddly.
    • Asmodeus!Bartender just kind of lays it out there… *anvils*

i’m sorry but this is so stupid. you’re telling me that dean winchester would not paint a devil’s trap in front of the door? you’re telling me that a demon could just walk into that hotel room with all the warding they did? it’s just not realistic, barb

asmodeus is a prince of hell though and the devil trap did not work on Ramiel in s12.  He walked right through that bad boy.

DID ANYONE  ELSE NOTICE THE PAGE THAT JACK OPENED THAT BIBLE UP TO WHEN DEAN THREW IT AT HIM?!

Don’t know the Song of Solomon? Let me give you the opening lines…

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth!
For your love is better than wine;
your anointing oils are fragrant;
your name is oil poured out;
therefore virgins love you.
Draw me after you; let us run.
The king has brought me into his chambers.

I also meant to add in my initial post–Dean “threw the book” at Jack, which, if we carry the figure of speech through, means he was “indicting” Jack for a crime. The issue here is that Jack hasn’t committed any major crimes here–so why would Dean “indict” him? The contents of the book (which, to be clear, is a book about romantic and sexual love, the ONLY ONE in the Bible) answer that for us immediately.

Because Jack, Dean believes, is responsible for the loss of his Beloved.

Cas.
